Do I Have an Addiction?

If you’re wondering whether you have a problem with Alcohol, Drugs, Gambling, Sex, – or maybe even an addiction – the correct thing to do is to check it out either by talking to a professional, or at least doing some research. If certain substances or behaviours are causing difficulties in your life, then don’t you owe it to yourself to take a closer look?

Problematic use of substances or compulsive behaviours doesn’t always merit the title ‘Addict’, but it does need to be addressed

Question……Is this behaviour causing problems, conflict or difficulties in any area of your life……relationship?…finance?….work?….Health?

If the answer is ‘yes’……. How difficult would it be to make a change?

Addiction isn’t necessarily about how much or how often you use substances or behaviours, but it is about control, or the lack of it………..

Two important questions…………..

  1. Can you ALWAYS stop when you want to or need to?
  2. Can you ALWAYS tell in advance how much you are going to use or how long you will engage in the behaviour?

If the answer is ‘no’ to either or both of these questions then at the very least you have some cause for concern, and need to consider what lifestyle changes you need to make and – importantly – do you need help with this??
